Random Drugs Testing in Schools

* A survey published by News of the World on Sunday demonstrated that 82% of parents and 66% of children support drug testing in schools.

Drug use amongst teenagers is an increasing trend, yet the public perception of the suitability of random drugs testing at school is fairly uncertain. Such testing is not particularly common in the UK, even though it is regularly used in the USA.

The average starting age for heroin use in many cities in the UK is only 15. So testing in schools is definately justified.

The increasing concern for most parents is that their child may already be taking drugs, or that they may be in an environment where others may offer them drugs, particularly Cannabis / Marijuana. And the worst part is that this environment could possibly be their school.

So what can be done?

If the School or college doesn’t have a drugs testing programme, many parents or guardians who think there is a possiblity a young person could be taking drugs are able to conduct a drug test in the privacy of the home.

These home drug test kits are used in the health care industry by proffesionals and by businesses on a daily basis and one test can provide easy to read results in minutes for a variety of different drugs. This includes the most common drugs, such as Cannabis / Marijuana, Cocaine, Amphetamines, Benzodiazepines, Opiates, Methadone and Methamphetamines (including ecstasy).

These tests are straight forward to use and give you an accurate insight into which drugs you are dealing with, and can help you monitor your childs abstinance when used regularly. The {alternative|alternative to a urine test} is a hair test which shows abstinance over several months, however this method is very costly going into the hundreds of pounds as you have to pay for each drug tested and for the hair to be liquidised so that it can be tested.

Another alternative that can be used to detect drugs is the saliva drug test which tests for several of the more commonly abused drugs, however this test can only detect drugs within the space of a few hours so unless you believe the young person is currently intoxicated you are best to use a urine test which detects use within a couple of weeks.
