Drug and alcohol addiction is the most upcoming problem in today’s time. When a person gets addicted to substance abuse, we hope that one day he himself will give up the habit after realization, but that normally doesn’t happen, even after so much of pleading done by the family and friends.

I learned of it in the most horrible way possible - he had overdosed, and the entire event was followed by months of him in detox and rehabilitation, none of us being able to see him because, at the time, we had been too young. When we asked him, years later, what had driven him to it, his answer was a simple:.

It is impossible however to pin the increase in teen drug and alcohol addiction to any single factor. There are just so many different variables that may play a role.

With peer pressure added to the mix of being exposed to more at a much earlier age (not forgetting the experimentation that tends to go on anyway) - you definitely have a significant reason for the increase in teenage addiction. Peer pressure especially, which results in you doing loads of stupid stuff anyway, plays a huge role in influencing your behaviour at that age.

There are different phases that are involved in the intervention program offered by drug rehab that include:

* Pre-intervention meeting which involves the general question and answer round to analyze the psyche of the addict.

But I think one of the biggest reasons today for the escalating problem of teenage alcoholism, and especially teenage drug addiction, is the availability of alcohol and drugs. If you look especially at the kinds of drugs readily and easily available on the streets today, heroin and amphetamines being two of the worst, it doesn’t take long for kids to get addicted. And these are drugs that weren’t available as easily 15-20 years ago.

* Intervention and treatment where the patient is counseled to get agree for the treatment.

* Making available post-intervention services where it is assured that the drug addicted person does not get into the habit again.
